According to a new Twitter Index conducted by PeerIndex, the boy band members of “One Direction” are far more influential than the Prime Minister and the Mayor of London apart from a host of journalist and other high-profile politicians.

Liam Payne heads the list with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik coming in fifth place.

Ed Sheeran, David Cameron, Piers Morgan and Stephen Fry are also apart of the top 10 members – results that are based on the analysis of more than 10 billion tweets made by almost 150 million people.

The index took into account the influence that these celebrities had on fellow Brits rather than the number of followers they had. Also, the amount of interaction that they generated with people was taken into account and which included the number of retweets and mentions.

With that said, the band ‘One Direction’ has far more followers than the Prime Minister himself, who has only 500000 followers himself. In fact, between them, they have about 10 million followers.

However, the reason why David Cameron found himself on the list is because of the attention that he gets from high-profile journalists as well as international leaders.

For a top score of 100, those who were ranked in the top four obtained a score of 98, and were only related to people in the United Kingdom.

Azeem Azhar, who heads PeerIndex, also said that if Americans were included Justin Bieber as well as Lady Gaga would have not only scored high (95 in Gaga’s case) but topped it as well.

Feminist Caitlin Moran made the top 10 while Olly Murs, Jessie J and football player Joey Barton made it to the top 20.
