It’s no surprise that George Michael was thrilled when the tabloid in which he has featured in regularly, News of the World, announced that they would be shutting down. In fact, he has gone on record to state that this is “a fantastic day for Britain”.
Perhaps the reason for this is because News of the World Reporters found out about George Michael’s DUI arrest last year by illegally tapping his phone, and singer used Twitter henceforth to accuse Rebekah Brooks of corruption who incidentally told him while meeting him at his home that it was never the celebrities or the public that gave them that information but actually the police who came to them first.
In regards to his DUI crime, he said that he, along with other celebrities were robbed of their justice, yet wasn’t reluctant to do jail time for his crime, for the reason that he was “very ashamed”.
George Michael went on to say that a lot of people, whether rich or poor, deserve the law and that this tabloid has been responsible for denying them their rights for a long time now. Of course, in the wake of its own phone hacking scandal, James Murdoch (the News International chairman) decided to shut down the tabloid, with the weekend edition being its last after almost 165 years.
The reason for this is because of the outrage it has cultivated in Britain, thanks to the hacking scandal that was revealed recently, and this move comes despite the fact that it has remained Britain’s largest selling newspaper for several years now.
