Taylor Swift: From Country Music to Pop Tour de Force

Taylor Swift appeared on the music scene at the age of fourteen. She was a girl from Nashville, Tennessee. She released four studio country albums, Taylor SwiftFearlessSpeak Now, and Red.

Although she was labeled a country music singer and won multiple awards at the Country Music Awards, many of her songs had a pop feel to them. Her hits were played on pop music radio stations. In October 2014, Swift released her fifth studio album, 1989. Her fans were intrigued by this album because it was Swift’s first official pop album. She had left her country music days behind her.

By switching to pop music, Swift was able to change her image and concerts. Even though her music has always contained a pop quality, she contributed to her country image by sporting cowboy boots and bedazzled guitars at her concerts. Her hair was wild and wavy.

On her 1989 tour, Swift wore sparkly, sexy outfits onstage. Her concerts became elaborate shows, where she grooved with backup dancers and included guest starts, usually pop musicians. She cut her hair and straightened it into a sleek style. Her image was as much of a contributor to her pop image as her new music.

Swift documented every show of her new tour on her Instagram. As a result, fans followed her new style religiously.1989 was only the beginning of Swift’s rise as a pop icon.
